Over 170 Yearsof History

Established in 1851 to house Victoria’s most notorious criminals, Pentridge Prison played a central role in the state’s penal system for more than 140 years. The complex grew to encompass multiple divisions, including the infamous H-Division, known for its harsh conditions and solitary confinement.

Since closing in 1997, Pentridge has remained a powerful symbol of the darker chapters of Victoria’s past. Now open to the public through Pentridge Prison Tours, its stories continue to captivate audiences—and creatives—through immersive storytelling and cinematic exploration.
